what's next on your to do list?
Julia Carr, Alana Gerecke and Siobhan Sloane-Seale founded the Body Narratives Collective in December 2007. In 2008 Alana went back to school to complete her Masters degree, and Meghan Goodman joined the collective. In 2011 Siobhan stepped down from the collective to pursue her other interests. We appreciate her many contributions!
Body Narratives is a dance-based collective with an interdisciplinary focus. We are dedicated to the sustainable practice of dance as an art form involving research, creation, interpretation, education and public presentation. Together, and as independent dance artists, we are committed to researching movement ideas and performance practices.
This year BNC has been selected as DanceLab recipeients at the Scotiabank Dance Centre, and Artist in Residence at the Shadbolt Community Centre. We are very excited about the interdisciplinary possibilities of this project which merges dance, photography and storytelling. With the dramaturgical guidance of D.D. Kugler we are working towards developing Tracing Traces into a full length piece for the fall of 2012.
The Body Narratives Collective is also collaborating with Maggie Winston of Lost and Found Puppet Co. on a project called Habitats. As recipients of the Artists in Communities Program (http://vancouver.ca/parks/arts/air.htm) at the Kensington Community Centre we will be facilitating the creation of a site-specific performance experience that will animate the space in an open house celebration on June 3rd, 2012. There will be lots of opportunities to get involved in the creation/performance or even as volunteer for the event.
