You and Me Youth Media Day, July 20

You and Me Youth Media Day

A derivative of YOU(th) ME(dia), YOU+ME uses a youth’s-eye-view to explore how new media technologies are changing our relationship to the world around us. With the advent of social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, youth are increasingly at the vanguard of social movements worldwide.

Organized by youth for youth, this day-long program includes a combination of film screenings, hands-on workshops, and discussion forums all organized around the theme of Social Media and Social Engagement.

Presented in partnership with the Richmond Youth Media Program (RYMP), this exciting new festival initiative combines cutting-edge technology with youth pop culture.

After dark, local DJ talent spin their jams and showcase their skills in a shipping container turned dance club among the trees in the Minoru Plaza. Come out and show us your moves, as the music spins through the festival.

Highlight of the Digital Cranival at the festival opening night, the Canopy of Light will feature musicians Michael Red and Andrew VanHassel, performing in the grove of trees outside the Richmond Arts Centre. The trees will be lit from underneath by an array of a video projections focused directly up into the trees, lighting the underside of the canopy and surrounding foliage with animated projections of local flora in the Richmond area. The imagery will be manipulated real time to synchronize with the movement of the musicians.

All activities will take place in and around the Richmond Cultural Centre. The registration fee is $10 per person. Group bookings welcome.
